The Size of a What? July 25, 2009

So, I just looked online to see what was going on in my belly at 12 weeks. The eyes are in the front of the head and the baby can swallow and it’s kidney’s are producing urine. All pretty normal stuff. I keep reading, eagerly anticipating this week’s “Your baby is the size of ____ fruit.” (They always use a fruit, last week was a fig) Well, no fruit this week. Nope, they compared my precious little baby to a Vienna sausage. Right away I got a mental image of Vienna sausage sized baby floating around in that crazy grape jelly, barbeque sauce concoction in a crock pot. It was quite disturbing.

I’ve never eaten a Vienna sausage and after that little episode, I don’t think I’ll start.

Quick Update July 21, 2009

Only 9 more days until the end of my first trimester…..not that I’m counting…..

While each day the pregnancy symptoms get a little bit easier for me; the baby finds some new way to make things more interesting. I’ve always disliked the smell of raw onions, but holy cow, the baby is even less of a fan than I am. Jon chopped up about 5 onions the other day and it took all of the strength I could muster not to run out of the house gagging. Poor guy had to get rid of all traces/smells of onions so I could go into the kitchen. There are still come chopped onions in the fridge in ziploc containers, sitting next to a mug full of baking soda and I can still smell them! I think onions are going to be banned from the kitchen. Sorry, buddy.

My belly has officially popped out a little bit. Yesterday morning I noticed that it seemed bigger than usual. I had to ask Jon about 10 times if it looked like a baby bump or just gut. I’m almost totally convinced it’s baby….but check with me in 5 minutes I might change my mind…

I hope to get some ultrasound picutres up this weekend. We have them from 4 weeks, 6 weeks, and about 9 weeks. Ahh the benefits of a high risk pregnancy- lots of ultrasound pictures of the baby. I’m hoping I’ll lose that title very shortly though. the nurse told me yesterday that I didn’t need anymore progesterone shots. (Wohoo..no more ugly bruises!) Got a doctor appointment coming up on the 30th, so we’ll see. Fingers crossed.

I’m 50 Percent Sure It’s a Girl… July 15, 2009

So, Jon was just walking around holding Toby and came up to me- hid his head behind Toby’s, pretended that the dog could talk and said, “Mama, please make a boy so I can have a brother.” Something tells me that Jon is hoping for a boy….

30 Weeks to Go July 10, 2009

Just started my 10th week of pregnancy. We’re growing bones and cartilage this week….also the baby is now the size of a prune. That’s a big step up from a medium sized green olive.

The morning sickness is getting to be well…..freaking annoying. There’s no rhyme or reason. It chooses random days to rear it’s ugly head. For instance, the other morning I felt great and then I ate an egg and bacon bagel for breakfast. Which was very tastey by the way. Well, apparently the little nugget baby didn’t care for that delicous bagel and decided that we needed to get it out of our system IMMEDIATELY. Good times. I’m literally counting down the days until my 2nd trimester starts and the morning sickness ends!

This week I started noticing that people keep looking at my belly. I’ll be walking to the bathroom at work and all the people who know I’m pregnant look over and me and instead of looking me in the eye, (or checking out my rack like a normal person) their eyes go straight to my belly. If there was an actual baby bump there, I wouldn’t mind so much. But, it’s just gut at this point. So they all look, and I want to scream, “It’s not the baby, it’s the nachos I had for my second dinner last night!!!” But maybe that’s the hormones talking….

And Baby Makes 3 July 6, 2009

First comes love. Second comes marriage. Third comes a baby in a baby carriage….

Yep, they all fell right into place for me and Jon. We are 9 weeks pregant with our first child. So far, it’s been quite the adventure to say the least. Constant hunger, morning sickness, mood swings and weekly progesterone shots. All I have to say is this kid is sooo getting a wicked guilt trip as soon as it’s old enough to understand what a guilt trip is.

Even though all of this first trimester crap is annoying, I’m secretly enjoying it. I feel incredibly lucky to be able to create a little life. I actually had my first mommy moment the other day. I was singing as I was cleaning up the kitchen and then started thinking about learning lullabies and all of a sudden I was overcome with this feeling of love for the little baby. I felt all warm and full of pride. It was a really special feeling…one I doubt I’ll ever forget.

It’s been about 2 hours since my last meal…time to go forrage for a snack…
